05/27/2009 Guitar Hero 5 Set To Release Sept. 1 Activision today revealed the release date for its upcoming Guitar Hero 5. The game will be available Sept. 1—eight days ahead of the Beatles: Rock Band, a competing title from Harmonix. What does the fifth main game in the series add? How about the ability to mess with the fundamental makeup of your virtual band, creating bizarro combos like four singers, two drummers and two bassists, or a guitar-only experience? It also adds drop-in/drop-out play and a ton of new music from bands such as the White Stripes, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Gorrilaz, Muse, Coldplay, the Raconteurs and Vampire Weekend. [more info]

05/22/2009 Codemasters’ Fuel Already In The Record Books Out of all the bullet points Codemasters can draw from when hyping its upcoming open-world racer Fuel, the size of its world seems to be a favorite. It turns out that they’ve been bringing it up for a pretty good reason: it’s game world is the biggest in the actual world. That accomplishment is being recognized by the Guinness World Records Gamers Edition, too. According to the company, Fuel has 5,560 square miles of in-game terrain making it the largest playable environment in a console game. [more info]
05/21/2009 Watchmen Deal Coming To Blu-Ray If you didn’t already know, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment licensed a two-part action/brawler game based on the recent Watchmen film. After receiving mediocre reviews, the first episode of the game, entitled Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 1, was met with little interest from most gamers. 05/20/2009 3D Realms Announces It’s Not Out Of Business, Just Bubble Gum After two weeks of speculation and goodbyes, 3D Realmsare setting the record straight regarding its business plans, as well as its hallowed Duke Nukem series. 3D Realms stated in a press release today that the company is definitely not closing its doors, but is halting the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever project and laying off its entire development team due to a lack of funding. But the company is quick to point out that after some restructuring it plans to continue to “license and co-create games based upon the Duke Nukem franchise." [more info]
