08/07/2008 50-Hour Charity Gaming Marathon Announced We are always on the lookout for quality charity events sponsored by entities in the video-game realm, and today another good one came to our attention. Platform Nation announced a new charity drive – dubbed Playapalooza ’08 – which will initiate on August 14. The event takes the form of a 50-hour gaming marathon which will benefit Child’s Play – an organization that gives video games to hospitalized children worldwide. [more info]
08/07/2008 Ubisoft Suing OEM Over Assassins Creed Leak Gamespot recently dug up new details surrounding the lawsuit Ubisoft is filing against Optical Experts Manufacturing – the company they hired to produce copies of the PC version of Assassin’s Creed. Why are they suing? Ubisoft claims that OEM leaked a pirated version of Assassins Creed PC a full two months prior to the expected April release. [more info]
08/07/2008 EA To Release Alternative Madden NFL 09 Cover According to IGN.com, EA Sports plans on making available an alternative cover for the upcoming Madden NFL 09 release. The cover will take the form of a free download, and will put cover-athlete Brett Favre in his new team colors. Starting August 11, EA will make the new cover available for download via easports.com, allowing NFL junkies to showcase Favre in his new Jets uniform, as opposed to the Packers livery displayed on the official Madden 09 box. 08/07/2008 Gears Of War 2 Will Include Language And Violence Filters Don’t worry – for those of you who enjoy it – curb-stomping, human shields and bloody chainsaw battles are sticking around in Gears of War 2. However, if you are morally opposed to blood, violence and strong language (which if you are, we strongly recommend you avoid this title all together) Gears of War 2 will feature an optional filter to cut back on some of the more mature material. 08/07/2008 Fable II Hits Stores October 21 Yep. It is official – Fable II will be hitting retail shelves on October 21. Microsoft officially announced the release date early this morning, along with an inside peek as to what we can expect in the Fable II Collectors Edition. If you are a true Fable fan and decide to splurge on the upgraded edition – expect a Bonus DVD including a making-of feature narrated by Peter Molyneux. You can also look forward to some extra in-game content. If you have an Xbox Live account you will receive “The Hall of the Dead” dungeon, “The Wreckager” cutlass weapon and other bonuses. 08/06/2008 Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning Dated It’s official. Mythic Entertainment and Electronic Arts announced today that Warhammer fans will be able to get their hands on Age of Reckoning starting September 18, 2008. On that epic day, Mythic will open the North American, European and Oceanic servers and allow gamers to choose their preferred subscription option. [more info]

08/06/2008 GTA IV Is PC Bound This November We got word from Rockstar Games this morning that its hugely succesful Grand Theft Auto IV is heading over to PCs this November. It'll be hitting North America on Nov. 18 and Europe a few days later on Nov. 21. We're still waiting to hear if any of the Xbox 360's DLC content will be migrating over to the platform, too, but there's one thing PC users will almost certainly be able to look forward to: mouselook. 08/05/2008 Fury Online Closing Down For Good Tony Hilliam – CEO of the Australian game development studio Auran – announced early today that Fury Online will soon be shutting down for good. Not only is Fury Online shutting down permanently, it is being erased in record time. By this weekend the Fury online servers and website will be no more, a move that Hilliam found unavoidable because the team could not find a way to keep the free-to-play MMO title profitable. 08/05/2008 Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad Coming To The 360 Just one month after Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers for the Wii was announced, D3Publisher has brought to light their plans for the Xbox 360 debut of a Japanese cult-classic title. The original Onechanbara game debuted in Japan as a budget title for the Playstation 2, and featured Aya and Saki – “super sexy samurai sisters whose beauty and sword wielding talents stand as earth’s last hope against and unstoppable zombie infestation.” Yes, you heard it right; the game focuses on bikini-clad chicks killing zombies with swords. 08/05/2008 360 Avatars Only Available For E10+ Games Developmag.com recently made it out to Microsoft’s Gamefest event in Seattle, and managed to dig up new details about the recently revealed Xbox 360 Avatars. Xbox Live GM Eric Kilgore stressed that when it comes to Avatars, the goal has always been to make them as diverse in application as possible – integrating them in-game, out of game and across the web.
